Aaaand we’re back up and running!

It’s only taken me a month, but I finally got my website host transferred elsewhere, which ended up being very intimidating, but also very doable. Turns out most of my issues were with behind-the-scenes problems with my previous host, which added a lot of extra whattheactualheckwhyaren’tyouworking moments, but hey. We got here.

Now that I’ve got the more stressful parts knocked out, it’s been fun getting to do some i-wish-it-were-spring cleaning, refreshing, and updating here on the website. It’s a neat space to have and I think I’ve been taking it for granted. Viewing it as too much of a blog vs. entire blank canvas of web space.

It’s weird to wrap my mind around. I came into this whole website-building-thing completely clueless about any of it. I’ve had offers of help, but I’m determined to keep this my own project. An artform of its own. There’s so much to learn and figure out, but it’s coming together just fine for me so far. It’s been a valuable experience and I’m glad I have it to tinker around with. I’d highly recommend starting your own website just for the sake of doing it.

I’m discovering that the possibilities are endless. If I can dream it, I can probably make it happen somehow. Almost every layout and element on this site has been an idea I’ve brought to my own table, researched, used someone else’s plugin/code/workaround, or figured out how to code myself. Like my homepage. It seems basic and minor, but actually took an act of congress to get the pictures to lay like that and link to their corresponding places. I wanted to cry with relief when they actually behaved and worked because I freaking did it, and the coding still isn’t quite right on it, but ya know, at least it’s functional.

I plan to make messing around here a more frequent habit of mine, so if you have ideas of things I should add, or what you’d enjoy seeing, please let me know! I stuck the Gallery page up as a portfolio for some of my more recent art. I’d love to keep the commissioned work coming. I also just added the Radio page because I’m alwaysalwaysalways looking for excuses to talk about music. There’s a couple more pages I know I want to add in the near future, but they shouldn’t keep me busy for too terribly long. I’ll be good and ready for a new challenge.

I also need to get back into utilizing this blog. I think I make too big of a deal about it in my head. Because I write on Instagram, I feel like whatever I put here needs to be extra profound or lengthy or interesting to warrant me asking you to take the time to leave Insta, so I end up not writing anything at all. But then I’m thrown off when people reach out to me about updating my blog, so at least part of it’s my own insecurities.

Besides. If I want to make a blog post that’s two sentences long about the bubble gum I’ve been chewing lately, more power to me. It’s my party and I can do what I want. Boom.

I’ve been by myself too long today, I think.
